Abstract: The article deals with critical thinking as the primary goal of high school and an integral part of education on all subjects and approach to citizenship. It highlights the importance of critical thinking in the educational policies of the EuropeanUnionandthe unsatisfactory status in the Bulgarian legal documentation. What is being presented is the potential of literature education to develop critical thinking which is a benefit both to the education system and society.
