Maya Sotirova (Assoc. Prof., Ph. D.) has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Education at South-West University “Neofit Rilski” – Blagoevgrad since 2007 and in June 2011 she was promoted to associate professor of intercultural education. Her teaching and research interests are in the fields of intercultural communication and intercultural education, applied linguistics, methodology of teaching Bulgarian, language education of children with special educational needs. She received her Ph.D. degree in Theory of education and didactics in 2002. Maya Sotirova has published more than 60 papers in specialized scientific collections and journals in Bulgaria and abroad. She is the author of two monographs (“Children’s Non-standardness” (2002); “Intercultural processes in Education” (2010)) and co-author in textbooks and manuals on Bulgarian language for primary schools (Publishing House Anubis). Dr. Sotirova took part in four national and five international scientific projects and in two training courses organized by the Council of Europe (Birmingham (2007); Budapest (2009).
