Abstract: The demands of the current age are so complex that each individual is forced to constantly take part in a dynamic process of continuous learning. As a result of this it is necessary to further examine the nature of the phenomenon “learning style” and its implications for lifelong learning in Higher education institutions. In addition to giving an overview of the most relevant theoretical concepts on the topic, this paper presents the results from recent psychological studies on the specifics of the learning styles of university students in Bulgaria. The analysis and the conclusions derived from it enable further reflection on the factors for effective learning in the context of the academic and professional preparation.
Key words: learning, learning style, academic environment.
