Communication Models for Activating Regional Communities

Georgi Tsolov

University of National and World Economy

E-mail: g_tsolov@abv.bg

Abstract: Regions and their development policy is a key EU priority. Regional communities are the most important object of impact, through formal communication networks guaranteeing equal awareness from the center to the periphery. But if the authority of the government allows it to put different regional communities under one denominator or to satisfy itself with awareness, it is likely that communities will be encapsulated and stagnation or destruction of integrity between them. Systematic approach views communications as the link between different dynamic systems in a higher order system, but when they do not find themselves in the world they are offered, regional communities focus on their own commonly called informal communication. Before us is the question – which communication models would activate the community for actions with integration focus?

Keywords – communication, information, value, knowledge, cyber model, regional communities, integration.

Abstract: The publication summarises the results of a study conducted by the Department of Library and Information Studies and Cultural Policy (DLISCP) at the Sofia University on the topic of “Assessment of the information value of the websites of regional libraries in Bulgaria. Development of a recommended website model reflecting the performance of regional libraries.” Regional libraries (RLs) are seen as modern organisations, which need to increase the visibility of their capabilities in order to find partnerships and to demonstrate their real benefit to people and society. The websites (Internet pages) of RLs play a role in shaping public perceptions of their effectiveness and attitudes towards their activities and services. In the context of the Information Age, the adequate presentation of RLs in the virtual space is a prerequisite for the full use of their potential and for an objective assessment of their importance in addressing the challenges of the period. Within the framework of a thematic project, a survey of the state of the websites of the 27 RLs was carried out according to a system of indicators presented in a matrix. The websites of 12 public libraries in other European countries were also reviewed, following similar indicators. The collected and systematically organised data serve to assess the state of the websites of the Bulgarian RLs, as well as to compare the approaches to their construction with those in other European countries.  The results of the surveys and the comparisons that were made serve as a basis for the development of a sample model for the information architecture of the Internet pages of RLs. The principles for its development focus on modern approaches to presenting the effectiveness of public libraries in the virtual space in an engaging manner.

Key words: regional libraries, public libraries, project, websites.

Verbalizing Non-verbal Dialogue as a Tool in Dental Education

Yordanka Stefanova

Mediacal University “Prof. P. Stoyanov“

E-mail: jordankastefanoba@abv.bg

Abstract: This paper is provoked by a specific teaching situation with foreign dental students. The report is based on a video that illustrates a non-verbal dialogue created by a pair of students on a specific dental problem and its verbal decryption by their fellow group members. The direction of the dialogue from non-verbal encoding to verbal decoding is extremely motivating for students and works towards developing and improving their communicative skills needed in dental practice. In the process of reproduction through non-verbal signs, students rely on a variety of language structures, use different speech variants, correct grammatical inaccuracies in the speech, and seek to extract more information from the given setting. The overall implementation of the communicative situation demonstrates the characteristics of a specific training in dental communication and has its place in the teaching of dental students.

Key words: verbal dialogue, verbal signs, verbalisation, verbal contact, communicative situation, speech act.
